Where We Find Ourselves

Just the thought of moving north was so exciting,

The slower pace, the small town vibe was so inviting,

Weren’t we surprised when all we found was fear and loathing,

It seemed the whole damned population was imploding.

I can’t believe we have done this to ourselves,

How’d we get here, all so angry, not ourselves,

Why’d we do this, thinking only of ourselves,

I can’t believe this is where we find ourselves.

We watch our country slowly crumbling around us,

We see the cruel acts that daily now are countless,

We’re leaving problems, all intractable and boundless,

Our destiny has manifested and it’s found us.

I can’t believe we have done this to ourselves,

How’d we get here, all so angry, not ourselves,

Why’d we do this, thinking only of ourselves,

I can’t believe this is where we find ourselves.

We’re speeding toward the cliff,

Elected clowns and easy grift,

When it’s over, said, and done,

We’ll see that no one’s really won.

I can’t believe we have done this to ourselves,

How’d we get here, all so angry, not ourselves,

Why’d we do this, thinking only of ourselves,

I can’t believe this is where we find ourselves.
